Thomas Talmadge Davis
Mr. Thomas Talmadge Davis, age 88, prominent citizen of Franklin, passed away January 8, 2019.
Funeral services for Mr. Davis will be conducted Thursday January 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM from Franklin United Methodist Church with the Revs. Andrew Owensby and Jeff Bryan officiating. His body will lie in state at the church from 10:30 AM until the funeral hour. Interment will follow the service in Franklin City Cemetery.
The family will accept guests at Stutts Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.

Mr. Davis was born June 10, 1930 in Heard County to the late Roland Paris “Roley” Davis and Emma Ludie Mathews Davis.
After graduating from Franklin High School (Class of 1947), Mr. Davis would become one of Franklin’s most prominent citizens.
He served in the US Army Signal Corp from 1951 until 1952, a portion of which time he spent in Germany. Later he served many years as a member of the American Legion Post 148 and was chosen as Commander and Adjutant.
He was elected Heard County Clerk of Superior Court in 1957, and was re-elected five times without opposition. While serving as Clerk of Superior Court he attended Woodrow Wilson College of Law and graduated with his degree in 1961.
In 1965 he was appointed as a Director of the Bank of Heard County. In 1977, he resigned as Clerk of Superior Court to accept the position of full time President of the bank, and served there until his retirement in 1994.
On October 12, 1974, he married the love of his life, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Bryan, and they have remained partners and constant companions for the last 44 years.
He joined Franklin United Methodist Church in 1957. Over his many years of service Mr. Davis served in a number of capacities including Sunday School Teacher and as a member of several church committees. He also served on the Board of Trustees of the LaGrange District of the United Methodist Church from 1986 until 2006.
Mr. Davis became one of Franklin and Heard County’s most active public servants, and he served in many different civic organizations throughout the years: Chattahoochee Lodge #68 F&AM (served as Worshipful Master), Heard County Lions Club, Heard County Braves Booster Club (helped to organize the club and was president), Heard County Library Board (was serving when the current library was built).
In the business world Mr. Davis helped to promote and grow Heard County through membership in several organizations: Development Authority of Heard County (a member from its inception until 1993), Chattahoochee-Flint Area Planning and Development Commission (served as Chairman), Coweta-Fayette EMC Trust Board (4 years), Heard County Water Authority Board (served as Chairman). He also helped to bring the Tenaska Power Plant to Heard County.
He was elected as a Supervisor for the West Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District in 1974 and served on the Board of Supervisors until 2007. In 2006, 2010, and 2014 he qualified for the same position and ran unopposed each time. He served as the Chairman and Treasurer of the Board on several occasions.
During his free time he enjoyed bird hunting and playing golf. He loved to travel and went to many places with friends and family. He dearly loved his many nieces and nephews, supported them and gave them advice when they needed it the most.
Mr. Davis’ devotion to public service leaves a legacy for all to remember, and inspires others to serve his fellow man with the same distinction as he did.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Jackie Davis of Franklin; one brother, Mr. Harry Davis of Mooresville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Ernestine Cooley; and two brothers: Bruce Davis and Wayne Davis.

So very sorry to learn that this dear man has left this earth. He was a true friend since 1985 when I was appointed as his pastor at Franklin UMC. Loved him and Jackie. He was a true friend to Heard County. Ron Capes
Seeing Mr. Talmadge at church was one of my favorite parts of coming home from college. He was always so excited to talk to my sister and I and had a huge part in making my FUMC what it is today. I am so thankful to have known him and for the legacy that he leaves. My prayers are with Mrs. Jackie and with Franklin, because everyone will feel this loss. Gracie Rowe
