Mr. Maddox was born July 6, 1949 in Hall County, GA to the late Eddie Lee Maddox, Sr. and Connie Ethelda Bell Maddox. He was a Baptist by faith.

He was retired from the US Postal Service where he worked as a diesel mechanic.

One of his favorite passions was auto racing. He especially loved NASCAR, and he fulfilled one of his life’s dreams by serving in a pit crew at a race in Daytona Beach. He also got the opportunity to drive in a Super Pro Class Dragster.

Among his other pastimes were riding motorcycles, traveling, and going fishing.

He was proud of his father’s service in World War II. He wrote several books detailing the elder Maddox’s service in the 736’th Tank Battalion for the Special Forces.

Survivors include: his wife, Carol Maddox; one brother, Earl Maddox; and a number of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Maddox.

Dear Carol; I am saddened upon hearing the news of Eddie's passing. I hope you can find peace in your heart and in your lifetime memories of your life together.   Meg Glantz

Dear Carol: I’ve been a very close friend of your cousin, Danelle, for over 45 years and have heard wonderful things about Eddie for years. I’m sorry that I didn’t get the chance to meet you back when I lived in Coweta County and you all were meeting at the Cracker Barrel for holiday meals. I’ve heard so many good things about Eddie I feel as though I knew him personally. I want to extend my deepest sympathy to you and the rest of your family and friends. You are in my thoughts.  Susan Weegar

Tanner Hospice Care staff would like to offer our condolences to you during this difficult time. We appreciate you trusting your loved one in our care.

Eddie Maddox was one of the sweetest, kindest persons God ever put on this earth. His faith was deep and very important to him and sustained him through some tough times as his health declined. He was immensely grateful to his wife, Carol, who was constantly at his side. He was passionate about veterans especially those who served in the 736th Tank Battalion with his Dad. He spent countless hours compiling data, documents, and photos chronicling the odyssey of this tank battalion from stateside desert training to being the closest armored unit to Berlin at the war’s end. He authored and co-authored several books and a quarterly newsletter for the 736th Tank Battalion Association. He was the conduit for all things “736th” and was affectionately known as “the glue that held us together”. We may console ourselves that he was warmly welcomed by God and the fallen veterans he was so dedicated to preserving their memory. Godspeed, brother Eddie and we will meet again.

John & Sydney Hallinan on behalf of the 736th Tank Battalion Association Family
