Mrs. Eggert was born May 30, 1945 in Randolph County, AL to the late Willie Grey Phillips and Clara Mae Sheets Phillips. She adored her parents and loved them with no limits. With her beautiful red braided hair and freckled nose she could often be found close to her tall and strong father as his little shadow. She admired, loved and aggravated her older brothers and sisters.

Margaret moved to Chicago with her sister, Lurlene, and her nephew, Harold Turner. The sisters had many grand adventures and would often share and laugh about those special times. She met her husband, Lee Eggert, on a blind date, which she often remarked that he must have been blind. He was a born and bred Chicagoan from a large, loud and fun family. In the Windy City they started a family of their own together: a daughter, Julie Ann Eggert, and son, James “Jim” Richard Eggert.

She was a wonderful, loving and caring mother and wife. Her love of nature was passed on to her children and grandchildren. She had a lifelong love of reading, and her favorite hobby was to curl up in a cozy spot with a good book. Margaret could also make the best grilled cheese sandwiches on the planet!

She later became a doting grandmother to Evan James Heath and Trevor Lee Grey Eggert, who affectionately called her “Mae Mae”. She was a born caregiver, and very good at it. Her generous nature and need to help others often extended to her neighbors and her children’s friends.

She set her roots in Chicago, but often missed the people and places of her hometown, and would visit there as often as she could. After the death of her husband, she returned to Georgia, where she worked as a caregiver for the elderly until the end of her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Julia; son, James; grandsons, Evan and Trevor; two brothers: James Curtis Phillips (Betty) and Joel Hollis Phillips (Linda); and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Clara Mae Sheets and Willie Grey Phillips; her brother, Mahlon Hershel Phillips (Louise); and sister, Agnes Lurlene Phillips Saffin (Don). She was abundantly loved and will be forever missed.
